May 2008

I have a confession to make: I’ve watched My Girl every single night this week. Ok, except maybe last night, I only got to watch half because Moonlight was showing on C/S, and Mick St. John is definitely more important than Kim Chiu. LOL.

And after a week… my observations haven’t changed much. Kim is still the only standout for me. The others were just ok. Except for Alex Gonzaga, whom I’ve grown to like in the past few days. She acts a lot like her older sister (yeah, she’s Toni Gonzaga’s sister), and I think Toni’s funny so I’m enjoying Alex’s performance as well.

K, that said, I shall go now and check my mail and do all my other regular internet tasks, all while eating brunch, before the Idol marathon resumes on QTV, because from 12:45 until probably Monday, the only way you’ll be able to contact me is through text as I shall be forever parked in front of the TV, LOL. Yes, I am obsessed with this show. And it’s fun re-analyzing their performances.

(And man, did Archie mess up or what during top12 week? Hay. I’ve forgotten about his performance that week because all I have on my playlist is the studio version of We Can Work It Out, which is atually pretty good, at least for me. That fiasco during the live show just made me cringe, LOL. I now have a sneaking suspicion that the Lennon-McCartney theme was extended for another week just for little David. Haha. Glad he came back with a vengeance the week later, so yay.)

I’m sorry I’ve been hiding and I’m sorry you have to reach out so hard before I open up. I’m trying, I swear I am. I’m just wired that way, I guess. Once we break this wall it’s gonna make a world of difference and you’ll be surprised.

/emo moment

Yeah so… Summer’s practically over and Cam has been forever nagging me to post her episodes, so here’s the next installment of Cooking with Mama Yogi Bear.

Once upon a February afternoon (yeah I know, so long ago!), we went to SM North. Ok, I don’t remember what else we did there, only that we ate at Chocolat at The Block because we wanted to go somewhere we hadn’t been yet.

I TOTALLY AGREE THAT THEY SHOULD MAKE A REALITY SHOW WITH ARCHIE, COOK, MICHAEL AND JASON IN IT. And the other AI7 contestants should guest every so often too. Seriously. I would watch that show every freaking episode. Over and over. And over. And over. Haha.

Yeah I know, my AI obsession is getting a little unhealthy, and I’ve obviously got waaaay too much time on my hands to even be scanning all the comments on ONTD (only on AI-related posts though!), but what can I say? I love it!

I love it when the Idol contestants are interviewed together. They’re all so funny and they keep telling funny things about each other and (in the case of Michael Johns, LOL) tell jokes at the expense of others. I just love watching all of them together (especially Archie and Cook, but we already know that).

This, however, is one of the funniest parts of their most recent Larry King Live interview:

*Larry King asks each finalist where s/he’s from, and we get to David Archuleta who of course says Murray, Utah*
Larry: Murray, Utah.. the home of the Mormons. Mormons win a lot of these contests. Did you see that story in Newsweek last week?
Archie: I didn’t.
Larry: Big story. Mormons win a lot of reality shows.
Archie: Not this one. *laughs*
Cook: …And I feel like a jerk. *sips coffee or whatever*
Archie: *(fake?) innocently* What? *chuckles*

LOL. So cute. :D

And in slightly related news, my ringtone is now “WAMU” by David Archuleta. Can’t relate? Watch this.

I caught the pilot episode of the Philippine version of My Girl on ABS-CBN tonight, and that was my first thought as the end credits rolled. And then I had an urge to blog about it because Cam and I had hell of a (stressful) time laughing at the corniness of it all.

I started the episode excited because I loved the original Korean version, and from what I’ve seen in previews and stuff the show seemed pretty good. However, I was a little disappointed upon seeing the actual show. I don’t know why but my attention span almost couldn’t bear the whole thing. Must be because out of the whole cast, it was only Kim Chiu who stood out for me. I never thought I’d say this, but yeah, she was actually pretty good. She was hilarious and cute and really captured the feel of the original My Girl. I don’t like her drama scenes any more than I did before, but the comedy parts were so spot on! Alex Gonzaga and David Chua were also great (even though I wasn’t too happy with Alex Gonzaga the first time I saw her on TV, which was in some Saturday drama thinger, the one where Joross Gamboa and Victor Basa fall for each other.. she was like a petulant kid there and I didn’t even bother finishing because the whole thing was pure cheese). I loved the tour bus scenes! Those were probably the only parts that I liked, even though the tourists were… bleh. Boring. As if they weren’t there at all. Kim, Alex and David provided more than enough entertainment for those scenes though so it’s ok. :)

Moving on… Gerald as Julian was.. well, usual Gerald. I dunno. I was a bit bored. He’s still pretty even while crying though, haha. But yeah, I wasn’t impressed. I also had to laugh out loud when they said his character was finishing his master’s degree in business administration (and at the top of his class in Hardvard too, if I heard correctly), because dude. He doesn’t even look like he’s graduating college. Seriously. Not convincing. (Ok, I know we aren’t meant to be convinced because we all know how young Gerald really is, but still.)

As for the rest of the cast… Kim’s/Jasmine’s dad was ok, Ronaldo Valdez(?) was… as boring as his on-screen grandson. Hoho. Bing Loyzaga was… well, I haven’t really seen enough to tell. K Brosas was a surprise. Haha. She does drama now. Never knew that. The rest, I guess we’ll still have to wait because none of them really got much airtime today of course. And the extras… oh man. The usual unconvincing extras. Bleh. When will we get at least semi-convincing extras on Philippine TV??? Ruined Jasmine’s fake-crying moment tuloy. Boo.

Aside from the slightly disappointing acting, Cam and I also hated the wierd choppy overall feeling of the show. I dunno, the pace felt rushed for me and the transitions were so abrupt and odd that it feels like just a sequence of scenes. I dunno. Meh. It’s hard to explain. But one moment Jasmine’s having some drama with her dad, then the next Gerald’s crying (without tears) over his grandfather. I didn’t get the chance to actually feel the emotion of the scene. Also, some scenes were pretty stupid, like the one where Jasmine’s dad’s cash gets stolen… who in their right mind would advertise to the world the fact that they just won tons of cash (and it wasn’t even their own money)?!?! Well, what did we expect? This was Philippine TV after all.

Oh well. It was a good laugh though, poking fun at the quality, or lack thereof, of Philippine TV. And it wasn’t that bad, really (just a bit, LOL). I hope it gets better though. But the tour scenes really are so hilarious that I think I’m going to keep watching this show for those moments. Or at least until my attention span runs out anyway (which I think will be in a week or so).

Oh man, the two Davids are SOOOO CUTE together! The interview was pretty stupid, but the two were really funny. Archuleta=hilarious ball of awkwardness and embarrassment, while Cook is just so game about swaying his hips about (and in a freakin’ skirt, nonetheless!). LOLOLOLOLOLOL.

I like David Cook most when he’s with Archuleta. Otherwise I’m just, “Oh, he’s really good, but I still <3 Archuleta!” but I LOVE the two of them together. They’re so funny together and they’re like really awesome brothers, I love it!

Seriously. You have no idea how much I want a cat. You know those women who just can’t wait to become mothers? Those who love babysitting their friends’ kids because it’s the only way they can be with a kid (and pretend for a while that s/he’s the mother)? Those who wait impatiently to get pregnant even though they’ve only been married a couple of months? That’s how I feel, except with a kitten. I’ve been checking this and , more recently, also this quite religiously (because it’s the closest I can get to having a cat in my house right now) it’s not even funny anymore. Somebody please, PLEASE GIVE ME A KITTEN! (Yes, I want a kitten, because kittens are adorable. And I love my cats more if I’ve seen them grow up and everything.)

I’ve been reading what people all over the internet have to say about AI, the finale, and the season in general. And here’s what I have to say:

  • I find it really funny and stupid that AI gets criticized for actually producing a very talented top12 this season. Apparently people want “personality,” and apparently personality is restricted only to bad singing and bad hair (*ehem*Sanjaya*ehem*). I was actually glad that Idol was focusing on talent this year, what with it being a SINGING contest and everything, or so I was led to believe. People keep saying shows like American Idol are crap because of the crappy and/or weird contestants, and then when it actually comes up with a talented set of contestants, they still complain??? Ano ba talaga kuya??
  • I’ve seen so many people go crazy about the 12 million vote difference. While that is indeed a huge number, it’s not so much once you think about the 97 million total votes. Wala lang, nabbother lang ako na people rejoice like it’s a landslide win, when the percentage is 56-44 naman. Haha. Talagang ipinilit na hindi naman sila masyadong nagkakalayo when it comes to the percentages. Sabi ko nga, at least hindi 80-20 diba hahaha.
  • I don’t get why some people are still surprised that Cook won. Ok ang hindi ko lang nagegets yung mga taong nagugulat dahil daw sa pag-knockout ni Archuleta kay Cook kagabi. Last night’s performances don’t determine the winner. If anything, it made Cook fans vote even more. Haha. Na-o-odd-an din ako sa mga taong despite being Cook fans, nagulat kasi daw mas maraming fans si Archuleta. Eh puro teenage females lang kaya ang demographic nya. Kaya nga nafeel ko na na si Cook ang winner eh. Pero still, I’m on team Archuleta parin!
  • Been listening to the two Davids’ songs all day. Haha. Discovered that Archuleta’s best songs (for me ha) were actually those that aren’t as popular as his rendition of Imagine (or maybe those were the performances that I didn’t get to watch because I missed the episodes David sang them in). Also, Music of the Night is now my favorite Cook performance. Haha. Talagang yung hindi pa rock eh noh.
  • I rediscovered my liking for Michael Johns after watching the finale replay tonight.
  • Cook looks really odd when he’s forced to perform happy/upbeat songs in group performances. Not that he can’t sing those songs ha. Di lang talaga bagay with his rocker persona hahaha. For some reason mas keri ni Michael Johns yung ganun kahit papano.
  • I love the whole akbay thing going on with Cook and Archuleta while Cook was singing his winning song. Para silang magkapatid. :) That was the one moment I decided to disregard Cook’s aura of smugness (haha sorry Cook fans. This is why though I absolutely like (and sometimes even love) his performances, I was never a fan).
  • When Cook’s hometwon was shown after the announcement that he won, I wanted to see Archuleta’s hometown naman. Haha. Nakaka-intriga makita ang reaction nila. Siguro isang malaking, “AWWWWW!” na lang ang nasabi nila.
  • In fairness to Archuleta, he was all smiles even after Cook was pronounced the winner. He sure was taking the news better than I was, LOL.
